I'm already boycotting Clear Channel, just like I'm boycotting sticking forks in my eye, and for more or less the same reason.

Goddammit Bait.
Censorship over Howard Stern is f*****g laughable.
CHARGES DROPPED AGAINST OKLAHOMA TEEN FOR WRITING ABOUT SHOOTING
Cleveland County District Judge William Hetherington dismissed felony charges against Brian Derrick Robertson of Moore, Okla., for writing a so-called plan for a shooting at his former high school, Moore High School.
Robertson had been charged with one count of planning to cause serious bodily harm or death after a school scenario was found on the computer he used at the high school. Robertson had claimed that what he wrote was fiction.
The Oklahoma Legislature had passed a state statute making such writings a felony, if malicious intent was present.
In his ruling, the judge said he found no evidence of malicious intent; therefore, the charge was dismissed.
FEDERAL COURT OF APPEALS KNOCKS DOWN VERMONT INTERNET LAW
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit (N.Y., N.Y.) affirmed a federal district court's decision holding a Vermont Internet law unconstitutional. The law prohibits the distribution of non-obscene, **** explicit material on the Internet that is definded as "harmful to minors," if the material can be accessed by persons under 18.
There's your First Amendment rights at work! Keeps crazy kids in school and helps let porn reach our youth.
Shut the f**k up about the First Amendment and Free Speech. That amendment is as archaic as that Bible that says slaves are ok to own. It was writtine sometime around *1776*, so why you people think it applies to 2004's society is beyond me.
I so f*****g p****d at everyone who thinks censorship should be fought for and defined by such a pissant as Howard Stern.
OOOH HOWARD STERN! OOOH YOU ROTTEN COMMUNICATION COMPANY!!
FIRST HOWARD STERN AND THEN OUR GUNS!!
We have some paranoid m***********s in this country.

I think the Howerd Stern thing is just a coincidence of timing. There's lots more reasons not to listen to Clear Channel - that site points to this Salon article: http://archive.salon.com/ent/clear_channel/
I just don't listen to them because I don't like my music selection being dictated by big corporations.

Um...sin...large corporations already DO dictate what you listen to.
Again, this is a topic you'd best be served learning about on your own, but I'll give you the jist of how the music industry works:
Look up the word Payolla on yahoo or google for starters.
But basically, big money tells the program managers what to play on any given station, or consequently, chains of stations owned by large corporations.
On our local radio station, the world famous KROQ *rolls eyes*, every night they play a "top 5 at 9[pm]"
Only, when you go look on their website for most requested music in the day, NONE of those picks are on the top 5 at 9.
Why might you ask? Because programming managers are being paid BIG BUCKS to play what the money tells them to play.
This is not my opinion. This is a fact. Blink 182 even wrote a song about this recently.
Would explain why you hear such shit on the radio day after day even tho you KNOW it's shit.
Censorship is a buzzword and people like to jump that bandwagon. But once again, misinformed people passing judgement.

Well, yeah I know. The only radio stations I listen to for music are college stations (MIT, Boston College, Emerson college, Brown university) and indie webcasters. I also have an aversion to DJs who think their main function is to act like a buffoon rather than playing good music for me, and maybe offering the occasional insightful comment. Although I kind of enjoy the late night college shows when here's a bunch of people in the booth and they're all f****d up and having a good time; that's got a sense of genuineness that commercial DJs try for and never get close to.

Eric and I, the guy who put up that website, have been going round and round about this for weeks now.
I found a post of his on MySpace and decided to go to the root of the problem.
Eric THINKS he has this noble cause for censorship. He's never even HEARD of Payolla.
So I'll tell you what I told him: I like the energy and the fact that you're trying to change something, but the focus of your energies is missing the boat.
Even if every single person in America that thinks this website is a good idea, were to boycott, it won't change a damn thing.
For one, Howard doesn't have THAT many listeners anymore. He's been doing this same tired routine since I was in HS (1992).
And two, saying indecent shit isn't shocking anymore. And moreso, people are getting tired of hearing it.
And yeah, maybe Janet Jackons boobie will bring about a cleanup of what we hear and watch. So in that respect, maybe she should show both boobies!

and when i say he and i have been going round and round for weeks, this website wasn't Eric's newest brainchild.
He's been looking for a way to make himself feel important.
This is just the latest installment.
So again, you think this is a noble cause, but it's really one guy trying to feel important and rabble rousing the rest of yas based upon your paranoia.

Just pick up a copy of Billboard magazine. It will tell you what songs and artist garner "heavy rotation". It doesnt matter if the song sucks or not. Recording companies are PAYING radio stations to play certain songs. This is nothing new.

I'm just happy that WJRR here in Orlando is playing music again. I couldn't stand Bubba the Love Sponge. I didn't really find him funny.
As for Howard. He will likely be back on another station here.

I've been boycotting Clear Channel anyways. It has nothing to do with Howard Stern or any of their other 'personalities,' it's their inclination to force music upon us until it's popular. Payola is nothing new, but Clear Channel's national coverage may be permanently damaging the music industry.
I've heard there are two more large mergers among record companies in the works, which would leave maybe 3-4 left. It's a shame, with all the good music out there, we're forced to listen to the same acts and songs 30 times a day.
