Nah, whats wrong man, why are you so finicky today? Bad hair day, who the f**k cares if he posts every other post with more books, its not like hes spamming other threads man.

Dont be a killjoy, or if you must, there are probably a few kids down the block that you can make cry by spitting on thier ice creams.

Hi. The reason I find it annoying is because, let's face it... only 2% of the people who read this post are actually interested in what other people have read or recommend. Most people just want to see if anything they are going to post is posted, and if not they can add their suggestion to this little piece of immortality.

I, like many others, would like to simply ignore Obmar's posts.. however when he's spamming the thread like a junky, I have to ignore 500 of his posts which = annoying.

Haha, I'm convinced half of you are listing well-known titles you've never touched before, much less opened the cover. Today, reading Darwin is largely a waste of time to biologists, students, and pretty much everyone else. If you want to become knowledgable on the subject of natural selection, pick up a more up to date title... maybe one that includes the terms 'genetics' and 'evolution'?

Dude, just no. That was a pretty f*****g snobby thing to say.

My list:

Lord of the Flies
The Plague
The Stranger
1984

How much you wanna bet skippy? And why would it be a stretch since biology is a common major during one's undergraduate years and it should be a pre-requisite for anyone who takes genetics. BTW, Eric Drexler's book on Nanotechnology is quite intriguing as well. Yes it's very technical but a very interesting read.

I want to bet everything I've got. You did NOT read this, quit lying. No professor in their right mind would assign this reading, and only those fitting the "I want to impress the ladeez with my intellectual free-time reading" strereotype would purchase this title. It's a 500 page case study on concepts that are easily summed up in 2 paragraphs in any standard intro-biology textbook.

If by "snobby thing" you mean "not coming from the dumbest mother f****r in the room," I guess I am guilty as charged.

read George r.r. Martin's a Song of Ice and Fire series. Game of Thrones, Clash of Kings, Storm of Swords, and a Feast for Crows due out August 3rd per Amazon.com. Cannot recommend these enough, have personally gotten at least 3 people at work hooked on these, and have had to buy more copies to loan them out.

Caves of Steel > I, robot
Also read Cabliban if you enjoy Asimov, its by Ra Mcbride? but same universe.

Larry Niven's Ringworld, or pretty much anything else in his Known Universe.

Stephen King's Dark Tower series: Book VI Song of Susannah just released, only the Dark Tower itself left.

Heart of the Comet by David Brin and Gregory Benford: pick up anything by either of these two authors.

Reality Dysfunction series by Peter f. Hamilton

Farmer in the Sky and Starship Troopers: imo most important Heinlein books.

Sword of Truth Series is crap. I know this because I own the entire series, and I did really enjoy it. It is still crap. Get Feist's Riftware Saga instead. Or Glen Cook's Black Company series.

If you like Hitchhiker's you would like Red Dwarf by Grant Naylor.

Kbarr, those books SO reflect your persona here....LOL I really hope they aren't the BEST books you've ever read tho~!! Very Happy
***************************************

I have to say DUNE--a teacher gave me a tattered paperback when I was a sophomore in h.s. (yes, way back when dirt was young). I had never read such a book before--such detail, the creation of new worlds, languages, religions, etc. I probably have read that book more than any other.

Hobbit/LotR

Those are the first that come to mind. I'd really have to sit and think about any others...I've read a lot of good books; you guys have listed some books that I want to read and just haven't gotten to, yet, too.

Not really a 'reading' book but fairly interesting collection of photo's/collage that tells a life's story:

The journey is the destination - Dan Eldon

More photography-books that are very worth 'reading' if you're interested in that kind of thing:

Here's New York
Capture the Moment - Pullitzer Price Photographs (with accompanying story)

English books:

Reading Consider Phlebas from Ian M. Banks atm, it's a pretty good read, especially for sci-fi lovers.

Also bought Mil Millingtons book - Things My Girlfriend and I have argued about, which is hilarious and refreshing.

I am also fan of biographies. Read this one in recent times:

Gerry Adams. Man of war, man of peace? by David Sharrock/Mark Devenport. Very good & detailed inside information.

Some of my favorite Dutch books (for the few that read Dutch):

Hersenschimmen - J. Bernlef
Wilhelmina - Cees Fasseur (2-delige autobiografie)

Rifles for Watie by Harold Keith was always one of my favorite books growing up and I have re-read it as an adult a couple of times.

Always a page turner, even better if you're a fan of Civil War history.

Panzer Commander by Col. Hans von Luck - another excellent book. Non-fiction.

Soldat by Siegfried Knappe - in the same line as above.

Stalingrad by Antony Beevor, also Berlin 1945 by the same author.

The Drifters by James Michener

I'm sure more will spring to mind later.

Next time try doing like one section at a time and then kind of go over it again, it's not a book to read fast; if you've ever read philosophy, read it like that.
