It's like the subject says, I'm looking for you guy's opinions here. What do you think is the best group composition for a 5v5 arena? Hi ratings and all? More importantly, why do you think so? And don't give me jokes like "four warlocks and a healbot" (walk into a bar…)

These days, I would have to say a trio of shadow priests plus … just about anything else for the remaining two slots, really.
Though I actually do like the idea of four locks plus healer, only why not go all the way while you're at it, make all five locks and have each one summon a different pet?!

A well balanced DPS4/ 1 Healer team would probably serve best
Paladin
MS Warrior
Frost Mage
Elemental shaman
Shadow Priest or Warlock
Paladin in the healing slot because the goal of this team is to burn quickly. A paladin can sit there and bubble to give constant 3k+ HPS to his/her teammates. Not to mention BoF on the warrior or a BoP on the elemental shaman when DPS is called is crucial
MS Warrior, there is little to no reason NOT to have an MS warrior on the team. With all the movement control(and ability to break the warrior out of snares) this team has, the warrior will be free to get right up in their face and beat the snot out of it.
Elemental Shaman is there to back up heal and when its called, open up a can of woop-ass on the dps target. The on demand potential here is staggering, not to mention the plethora of uses totems have.
Frost Mage is really there for more battlefield control than its damage, though its damage is considerable. Its goal is to keep the DPS target snared and imobile along with the warrior for ease of killing. With a well place sheep and/or CS, your looking at a win.
Warlock/Spriest Either one, both has their strengths and weaknesses. A shadowpriest brings free healing, the most effective mana burn in the game, and substantual burst on demand with Mind Blast/ SW : D. Also a Spriest in 400+ resilience becomes a PvP tank.
The warlock can bring less burst, but a lot more control, through fear/felhunter/curses. DoTs on every apposing member can put extra pressure on the apposing healer right before the main burst down.
More important than any make-up though, is teamwork. How well you work with your mates to make everything run smooth and run well.

Bleh Sorry. Also, if you feel confident with only two healers, take out the PLD and toss in a warrior for some added aggravation.

This build is also known as "2345", a reference to the buttons the elemental shaman has to push to get the kill on the Focus Fire target. 2345 was the name for that lineup given by one of the top 5v5 teams Team Pandemic.

There is no best, simply because there's a counter to every group. I do know that currently, 4 DPS teams, and 3 Healer teams are becoming more popular. With a 3 healer team you'd want to focus on mana draining (hunter/warlock/offensive priest) and with a 4 DPS team you'd want to focus on burst damage (Mage, Warrior, Rogues, etc)

I have to second the power of a 3 healer mana drain team.
The opposing team really has to pick their poison with regards to which person to focus.
If they choose to focus on the priest, that's gonna allow the hunter to stand back and put out some real top-notch damage (along with mana stings of course). If you focus the hunter, the priest is just gonna sit there and mana burn.
The team is certainly tough to kill, and great at outlasting with insane mana drain.

What I love about 5v5 is that it is really hard to nail down a "best" combo. Clearly some work well and some fail miserably but you almost have to try to set up the latter.
I've always been a fan of 4 DPS set ups. Shadow Priest, Elemental Shamen, Rogue, Paladin, .
But easily the most fun set up I've ever done is: Shadow Priest, Elem Shamen, Rogue, Warlock, Boomkin. 3 classes that CAN heal, and 5 classes that can put out crazy damage. Nothing better than jumping on a 2k+ team like that and absolutely exploding the unsuspecting warrior before he can think.
