I'm thinking of buying a new gaming rig from the ground up.
What's the absolute best video card out there on the market today, money not being an issue?

nVidia 9800GX2
Comes complete with a heavy price tag though. If you can afford it, buy it.
one down side, its not compatible with DX10.1
Just warning you.

Best bang for your buck currently is probably second hand 8800GT's but THE best has to be the new Nvidia 280's.

There is some talk that, as a counter-part to the 9800 GTX's price decrease, there's a new 4-series card priced at $200 which apparently out-performs the GTX, in Crossfire as well. I haven't used the card and don't know anybody else who has, but reviews are calling the new 4-series a pretty sturdy release, so definitely something worth looking into.
