I had AA batteries leak in a graphing calculator here at work. I tossed the batteries but is the calculator still ok to use? There is some residue still in the battery chamber...wasn't gonna go to the trouble of cleaniing it out (what would I use, anyway?) if the calculator is now worthless.

It's a TI84 Silver, so I hope it's salvagable Sad

Alcohol and a cotton swab should be fine. You should have no problems getting it to work unless it was like that for a long time.

If they were alkaline batteries, the leakage is probably potassium hydroxide. I'd try a little vinegar to neutralize the the alkali (but don't let it leak into the calculator), and a pencil eraser to rub off any deposits.

Heh, I forgot to take the stuff with me..I poured it into little containers and stuff and left them on the table as I went out the door. Maybe it was cause I was carrying 200 freaking little bags of Easter candy that I made up over the weekend, complete with a PEEP in each one??

I'm still at work...lots of seniors working on Geometry tonight. Thankfully, I have two math teachers here because I am hard pressed to remember much about the subject :p
