Baseball, seven months of commercialized boredom, followed by one barely watchable week long commercialized championship.

it's the "cool" opinion now to hate baseball, for these reasons, but really, that can be said about any sport you don't like. If you don't like baseball, just say you don't like baseball. Don't chalk it up to it being "commercialized." You don't get baseball, and that's a-ok.

Actually i like baseball, I just don't enjoy the way Bud Selig, over-hyped players (See A-Rod, Derek Jeter, Giambi, etc), and the players union are destroying it.

I'll probably listen to the Tigers at my desk in about 30 mins.
They'll get killed this year, I'm sure, but at least they'll only end the week a few games out of first
Fast 2003 Tigers facts...
Average age of this year's roster: 25
Combined number of career wins for their starting rotation: 19

baseball is just boring - there is nowhere near enough action
The majority of plays involve the pitcher, catcher and batter - that's 3 out of 10 players on the field. In any given inning the other players in the field will touch the ball 0-3 times (maybe more for first baseman, but rarely).
Pitch, swing, throw back to mound. repeat x 150
For an "ATHLETIC" endeavor, baseball is f*****g BORING.
Factor in a 162 game schedule which renders any individual game before September virtually meaningless, expansion diluting talent to the point where the 4-5 starters are minor league quality, and the game just isn't all that captivating. It is barely watchable in the playoffs when there is added tension and meaning, but that is about it.
Compare baseball to hockey with its nonstop rush of action and violence, and the skill required to play the sport. Football which involves the entire team on every play, constant motion and violence. Basketball even though it has devolved into a lot of 1-1 postup moves is still infinitely more exciting than baseball. Or for the Euros and Latinos soccer which is also nonstop action across the entire playing field.
I think the sport baseball is most comparable to for excitement level to watch is golf... and that sport features senior citizens playing.

Vekril couldn't have said it any better and specially for an American to say this
Baseball has NO emotion at all, rarely any excitement and games of 17-4 and the like are boring as hell. I do not understand how this sport in American is so strongly followed and watched that you can pay these fat over weight slobs for the most part - perfect example is David Wells, yes some of them are in shape but nowhere near half of them.
Baseball is about as much fun as watching paint dry but I will give it the edge because once in awhile it gets exciting when a pitcher beans someone off the head and the teams race the mound.

The baseball is a boring sport argument is all too common. Baseball should not be compared to a sport like hockey or basketball. It's not a fast paced violent sport that will entertain non-fans. If that's the case, you're going to find it boring, simple as that. I hate hockey with a passion because it's pointless to me. Can I see why some like it? Sure.
Baseball is a leisurely sport. It's about picking a team, learning everything you can about the team, every tendancy, personality, strength, and weakness. Listen to the games on the radio, and imagine yourself in a place infinitely better than where you are. Maybe I'm spoiled by listening to every game narrated by Vin Scully. I listen to every Dodger game during the season, usually from 10PM to 1AM, and it doesn't get any better than that for me.
If you don't bring any knowledge into the game, it's not necesarily going to give you much back.

Ernie Harwell is 100x better than Vin Scully ever was....
Having said that, I do enjoy baseball from time to time but find it a bit more boring than hockey or basketball. In fact, it's only just a tad easier to watch on TV than Nascar. That doesn't mean it isn't interesting to follow, though.

I have watched and been around every sport for ages as I am a die hard sports fan and I will watch some of the baseball in the world series.
Personally I think some of the boring factor comes into it because they basically play almost every day, the season is WAY too long and for the most part 90% of the teams are out of contention 3 months into the season with no real chance of catching anyone.
I don't see how you can reference hockey as pointless. How does it differ from any other sport - outscore the opposition with one net at each end for the most part.
Because Baseball comes down to a pitcher against a batter and these days if you can hit juiced up baseballs you are good to go and should be on the team, that is not a team sport, I think baseball is seriously lacking in the team aspect on many levels.

Common because it is true.
Im sure most people will agree that lead is heavier than cotton. Does this make it any less true?

Hey Bobthy, I have a pound of cotton, and a pound of lead. Which is heavier?
Great argument, seriously.
Yeah, baseball must be boring.
Alex Rodriguez gets payed $252 million over ten years to bore us.

From what I've seen of hockey, only 25% of the games are actually exciting. The rest of it is 1 to 1 ties or 2 to 0 shut outs, where all they do is throw the puck up and down the ice entire games. I can watch sports center, have them piece together the exciting parts, and be happier with it. Oh and don't get me started on the trading deadline being so close to playoffs, and the firing of coaches for nothing.
Football just doesn't get me involved anymore, I don't care about any of the teams like I used too. The sport itself is ok, but I have no ties to the teams to really make it a good sport.
Basketball, what can I say, the west dominates, the championship is crap. Needs some major fixxing.
Baseball, alot of the problems listed are true. Except for the boring part. You folks probably have alot of the same problems I have with football. No involvement. I personally go see a AAA team locally here play instead of the major league teams. It's fun, I care whether they win or lose. It's exciting.
Frankly, all sports are getting, I dunno, it's just not bringing me into it. It's not like the Dodgers during the World Series where a gimp Kirk Gibson came up and smacked that homerun to win the game. Or the old Celtics/Lakers rivalry etc etc etc.. It's not the same as it used to be.

Well personally being a big hockey fan I agree and disagree. Simply I enjoy closer games and low scoring in any sport. I do not enjoy basketball for the simple fact that a huge percentage of the time you have the ball you score or someone touches your pinky finger and there is a foul.
Summing up the highlights in a hockey game and thinking that is enough entertainment on the sport of course for you is your call but for me I enjoy watching the powerplays and the setups both the defence and offense and the match ups the coaches have on the ice and such.
Problem really with all sports is they are getting over paid and this is beyond true in Baseball for sitting out in left field scratching your nuts

Exactly Andur. Major League Baseball has lost it's soul, between the seemingly endless player vs league strife, and the horrible league management (Uh, the 'league contraction' idea was brilliant, huh?) there isn't much to root for in MLB anymore. How can you have the threats of player strikes when a few players are pulling down 10+ million a year?

Contraction would be a huge help in cutting down the boring hockey games. Being a Wings fan, boring hockey isn't too common here... but I find alot of games on ESPN, Fox, etc. really unbearable. Dump 'n chase and neutral zone traps are a bane to the sport. There's no reason to keep gimp teams like Buffalo and Pittsburgh afloat, let 'em die and don't replace them.
The game itself can only benefit from consolidating the talent a bit. I think it would be great to get back to 25-26 teams.

I admit, the player strikes are lame. I'd much rather see a game where players that love the game are playing as opposed to watching spoiled celebs like a-rod prance around (i'm a mariners fan. we threw monopoly money at him when texas came to town. it was awesome to see them suck serious ass).
but you gotta admit. the AL west last year was awesome. Miguel Tejada is my hero. The entireity of the Oakland A's team goes to show that it's not big cocky celebrities, or big stupid home run hitters (mac, barry) that make a team. it's a combination of all aspects of the game.
baseball, through a series of tests (and a whole lot of games) proves precisely who is the best team in the nation.
it's the best game i know.
besides duck duck goose. oh man that game owns.
ps ichiro pwns

I can't stand them either. In fact, when the Wings are on national TV, I often mute my television and listen to our radio guy instead.
Although the very worst television hockey broadcaster will always be d**k Irvin Jr. He always made those Montreal games unwatchable.

Same can be said about every pro sport, the least of which is baseball. The problem is not the sport itself, but the state of professional sports in general. They are all a bunch of overpaid babies who have no love for the game at all.
On a more positive note, baseball is the greatest sport on the face of the earth.
PS: Whomever said baseball takes no skill is the biggest f*****g moron on the planet and obviously has never played the game. Hitting a baseball is the single hardest thing to do in sports, period.

Canadian announcers for the most part are very good and make the game much more exciting, Fox has got to have the biggest retards doing their hockey games. It is unreal how bad this comentary is.
No wonder a large population of the US hates hockey. I can't stand listening to these idiots
