I didn't know anybody cared about our Olympic baseball team.
How about this, Eduin. Do you remember what happened when the U.S. said, "I'm bored. Let's send a real basketball team to the Olympics"? We won like 84 gold medals.
Now imagine what would happen if we sent a real team to play baseball for us in the Olympics. These other countries are sending the cream of their crop and we're sending collegiate players that have the time to go. Christ, Tommy Lasorda led a bunch of college players to a gold medal in 2000, and these were against first rate international teams.
I guarantee that if the U.S. actually gave a shit about winning with a baseball team in the Olympics, we'd wipe the floor with every country except maybe a tough game with Japan, Cuba or something.
In conclusion, Scotland is a land of contrasts. Castles and shacks, goats and Nessies, you never know which Scotland you'll see until you get there. God save the Queen!

And ALSO ALL THOSE FROM THE MINOR LEAGUE cause they are rated as pro player because they earn money for what they do...
It leaves the US with only amateur players.
Kind of like saying..send your ebst players *even if they suck so much they cant play in real league* we will send our baseball babies at preschool.

The format for qualifying was stupid to say the least. The US was undefeated going into this game and even though Mexico lost, they both faced elimination. There is no logic to this. Anyway, a bunch of college kids losing isn't a big deal. What's a big deal is how college kids were able to win the Gold Medal last time against such powerhouses such as Cuba, Japan, Puerto Rico etc.

its kinda sad though.. when you get the honor to play for your country (like the olympics) you wont play cos your own team (national) makes you more money. (not saying this is the case with the US baseball team though)
Its the same in Holland.. We got some of the finest soccer players in europe, but still they dont give a f**k when they play for our national team, they make enough money anyway playing abroad.. so why bother working your ass off for some stupid world cup match?
imho its kinda sad because for me, there would be no greater honor then to represent your country in an international game of sports. its like when my mom represented Holland in '74 in the olympics rowing contest.. i would have been proud as hell....

yeah but lets say you are playing in the olympics and you end up getting injured.
you could be out a year, or even for the rest of your career. Maybe not in baseball but soccer is vicious. anyway, the real goal is the world cup.

But aye.. soccer players in Holland are already played too much.. so if they were to get injured in the olympics(which doesnt pay as good as regular daytime socce match) would f**k up your salery aye.. damn kapitalists

Baseball players in the U.S. are under contract, and I would say most if not all of the contracts forbid you to participate in organized sports such as the olympics, trials etc without permission. A Rod makes 25 million a year playing baseball, theirs no way the owner of the Rangers wants him to go get hurt and waste 25 million per year on a hurt player. Yeah, the chances of being hurt aren't high, but it is there.
Robert Edwards played football for the New England Patriots, he suffered a near carrier ending injury playing volleyball in the sand. Freak things happen. He is back to playing, or was last year, but hes a bench player at best now and was a rookie pro bowl player.
I would like to see the pros play in the olympics, its nice to see people you like play and have more of a chance to win, but then at the same time, these guys make a ton of money and dont need the exposure. I think its nice for the amature player to play, and maybe someone sees him and gives him a contract/drafts him. I think this is true for the Basketball, I dont want to see the NBA guys playing in the olympics. NBA basketball is horrible anyway, no defense, travelling etc... Would much rather they stick to college kids...

Well, as soon as another country can afford to franchise their own team and actually wants to, I suppose.
Do you think we'd just let some other country play with us for free? And btw, the best team outside the U.S. (Japan), gets ritually hammered just about eery year by american all-stars.
