f*****g banks
No matter what you do, they f**k you. You put money in, it costs you. You take money out, it costs you. You ask them why it's costing you - you get hit with a service charge for taking up their time.
Ever wonder why the 2 biggest buildings in every city are churches and banks?
I'll tell you why - because they're all shitballing thieves who are going to roast in hell as surely as George Bush roasted the vote in 2000.
f**k you banks - f**k you with a middle finger covered in butterschotch. f**k you right in your flabby little man-holes.

What annoys me most about banks is the fact they're only open when people are busy and working. A hell of alot of good 9-5 business hours are when I'm working the whole time, a******s.

Comerica was open a few hours on Saturdays, then the ones around here were bought by National City and of course my account got bought with it. They don't do business on Saturdays, they cut that out immediately.
I call it 'Nat City' because they treat people like gnats.

When I first moved to Atlanta, I transferred my money from Wells Fargo to bank of America since there are no Wells Fargo branches, here. BA decided that they would freeze my money for a while since it was a new account. I said how long, and they said a couple days. I just accepted it. A week later it was still frozen so I called and they said it would be frozen for another month. p****d, I went down to the bank and was looking very p****d. I told some peon I wanted to talk to the branch manager. She asked if she could help and I said, "No. Give me the manager." I could tell the employees were nervous, like I was going to pull out a gun because I was that p****d. The manager came out and I told him to give me my money. He said he wouldn't, so I told him that he is holding my money for illegitimate reasons and that I would be suffering personal damages (inability to pay rent and such) unless he gave me my money so I would have to sue in order to recoop losses. He heard "sue", got scared and called some VP of the company to tell him the situation. Naturally the VP was out playing golf and didn't want to be disturbed, so he yelled and the branch manager and told him to give me my money. I now keep my money in a small local bank. The End.

they make it very easy to dispute charges and it's nice to know that whever i go, there's gonna be a BoA

local credit unions are probably the best way to go.. of course they are just banks also..
it's funny.. with a large bank you get charged for everything because they have ATMs etc all over the place. With a small bank or a credit union you get charged because they don't have ATMs and services all over the place
-Nah-

BA sucks ass. There was no fraud involved. I simply transferred money. They TOLD me no fraud was involved, but I would still have to wait a month because their system had a flag set in their database next to my name and they couldn't do anything. b******t. I told them to update the flag since, by their own admission, it shouldn't be set. I gave them plenty of time to correct their error, but they're just asses.

I work at a bank, and have like 3 years of experience working inside them now.
First off, banks are out for one group of people: the bank. The customers are a means to get money for themselves. How we do this is by providing services and using interest from money deposited and then lended to generate profits plus all the insurance aspects and other things like safe deposits and business banking and stuff.
Bank service fees are getting pretty ridiculous these days. It has been a steady increase. Lower interest income due to falling interest rates had been draining the bank of profits, and service fees were often significantly scaled up. Chief among bank service fees are overdraft fees. $25-33 an item for overdraft charges really adds up when a deposit is made a day late and you have 5-6 things bounce for $2-10 or so, oh, and remember: largest items clear first. So you are much more likely to become overdrafted by one large item (a rent check) and then have like 6-7 things come in (like McDonald's charges for $2.56) and get charged about $150-185 in fees for it.
Anyways you gotta be really careful, but remember every bank is required to provide you with a list of their service fees, this is governed by the Truth in Savings Act disclosures which every bank is required to have when a new deposit account is created and keep it's customers informed of via bank statements.
It is the customer's responsibilty to review the information, it is only the banks responsibility to provide it. So the only reason the banks have to refund fees is if it is a bank error, or if they want to keep the customer around.
The check cashing policies are cool too. I'm assuming that four dollar fee was for cashing a check written to a non-customer who wanted to cash the check at a local branch of the bank the check was written off without actually having an account there. When this occurs, a bank will charge a fee to cash the check nowadays many times. After all, it's a non-customer to them. They could have gone to their own bank and cashed the check for no fee. Banks these days are obsessed with the idea of having "their own" customers, people who go to them and nobody else. They don't want to help anyone that isn't affiliated with them, only their own customers. So that's why they charge a fee many times. It's a good source of revenue. Every payday Friday at the old bank I worked at, we'd make at least $400 in $5 service charges for cashing checks. We usually raked in $10,000 in a quarter or more, and it always went up, never down, as time went on. It was like permanent income, and it was best to get it in low-income areas if possible. Remember kids, no minimum balance required!

Credit unions are the way to go. Mine is in the parking lot at work, so I pass the ATM every day. You have to pay atm fees when you're traveling, but my bank doesn't charge me for using another bank's atm at least. I just make sure I have plenty of cash if I'm going someplace and don't usually have to pay ATM fees. On top of that, my check card works almost everywhere and if you use it as a credit card my bank actually pays me a (small) dividend for it.
Credit Union = nonprofit = the way to go. BofA, Wells Fargo, etc. are shafting you. ATM machines are overrated.
