They are going to be more difficult to deal with - China is an ally and they have nukes. Containment will likely be the strategy there.

Assured destruction - it's what stopped the Soviets for 50 years. At least communists are for the most part sane and calculating. Deterrence works with them unlike the islamo-nutjobs who want to die. Also, China has a leash on N Korea.

According to Robert McNamara, during the Cuban missile crisis, Cuba had operational nukes. Castro recommended to the Soviets that they use them, knowing full well it would mean the total annihilation of his country. I don't think anyone ever called Castro a nutjob, but can you say that about Kim Jong-Il?

Ya, Kim Jong is definetely out there - not anything as close to rational as the soviets or even Castro. It's a scary world, but I don't think invading N Korea is an option. Really going to have to work with the Chineese to keep that psychopath contained.
I think the biggest risk from N Korea is not them launching on us - but passing a nuke off to a terrorist nation or group. By castrating the remaining major terrorist nation states (namely Iran and Syria) we reduce the possibility of this considerably.
