Article from my 'ole military academy about our alumni's...
| Quote: | Author/actor/producer Dale Dye, class of '62, writes that he's living an exciting life, "and I wouldn't be living it were it not for the shaping and molding I got at MMA (Missouri Military Academy)."
A former MMA battalion adjutant and US Marine Corps officer, Dye went on to write the novel, "Platoon." He now works as an actor, as well as a consultant on Hollywood war movies. He has collaborated twice with actor Tom Hanks and director Steven Spielberg during the production of the Oscar Award-winning film "Saving Private Ryan" and the Emmy Award-winning HBO maxiseries "Band of Brothers." In 2004, Dye will re-team with the famous filmmakers on another HBO series, this time showcasing the Pacific theater of World War II.
"Since MMA, I've become a teacher more than anything else." he notes, "showing young actors how to portray soldiers in order to produce more engaging films and TV programs."
For role models, Dye thought of his teachers at his alma mater. "MMA's are at the top of a short list of great instructors. I owe to the Academy's teachers a continuing interest in writing and studying the written word, an open and questing mind (and) a sense of self-discipline and responsibility...for which I'm eternally grateful."
At present Dye is completing a new film, "The Great Raid," which recounts the rescue of 500 POW's from a Japanese prison camp in World War II. Dye plays the role of Lt. Gen. Walter Krueger, commander of the US 6th Army. Following it's completion, members of his staff at Warriors, Inc. (Dye's consulting group) will travel to North Africa to film Oliver Stone's "Alexander the Great." |
Thought since most of us enjoyed Platoon, you might enjoy a "head's up" on his upcoming projects.
