Sadly, Slipknot's image is just a ripoff of black metal bands taken to the extreme.

That being said, Dimmu Borgir sucks in a dramatic kind of way like Cradle of Filth sucks. Black Metal has been sucked dry. The borders between Black and Dark metal have kind of blurred to the point where it is now a new genre altogether, or if you don't believe that, then Black metal (of the nordic variety) is pretty much dead.
