So i'm considdering a job offer in chicago, but could also head towards atlanta, not sure if I am really keen on either location, i'm more of a suburb, sit out on friday night, get drunk, cook some steaks on the grill, and turn the radio up hella loud.
Any of you who live there want to tell me a lil about the shitholes so I can decide not move there?

The weather is definatly nicer in Atlanta than Chicago. I used to live about 50 miles outside of Atlanta and commuted in, was a nice town to work in.

I'd move to Chicago before Atlanta, as there's nothing worse than heat and humidity.

If you don't mind a Popeye's or Church's chicken on every corner move to Atlanta. I personaly like Chicago suburbs better than Atlanta suburbs. Lot of traffic in either area.
Guess you have to pick the lesser of the two evils. In my opinion of course they both suck. But work is work.
Top five that I have been to and I have been to every major city.
Tampa / St. Pete Florida
Denver Colorado
Dallas Texas
Reno Nevada
Charlotte North Carolina

Marietta, Ga is a suburb, East Cobb to be exact. If you can afford the 500k+ housing. It's where I grew up, nice place. 35 minutes from the airport, lots of stuff all around, 2 malls within driving distance, no track housing, you can't lean out your window and p**s on your neighbors house. My dad's front yard is .7 acres, his back yard is a lil bigger than that. Lots of stuff to do in atl, not gonna fill 3 pages worth describing it ;p

thats where i grew up too wtf not even gonna ask i prolly know you
and your not gonna see church's chicken on every f*****g corner unless you live in Decatur or College Park.
Any other place in the suburbs your gonna see malls, shopping centers nice resturants everywhere.
only thing bad about Atlanta is traffic sucks d**k but if you live close to your job your fine.
TONS of young people in Atlanta too that are just starting out their careers also.

I've lived in Atlanta for about 5 years. I like it. The weather is very nice, there's a lot of nightlife, great restaurants, 6 flags, a good airport hub (if you travel), etc. I would recommend Atlanta over Chicago (which I've only been to once).
Atlanta's single biggest downside is its traffic. It's the worst in the country. Consequently homes nearer the city are much more expensive than those that are further out. If you live further out, though, commute times really suck. On the bright side, apartment occupation is very low, so prices are very cheap. If you're renting, a one bedroom in or near the city will typically range around $800/month.
Also, you must live no further south than midtown (unless you go much further south) if you value you life. You have a better chance surviving your Iraq job.
This is a map of atlanta:
-I live walking distance from the sandy springs marta station. The more suburban portion of atlanta pretty much begins just north of here.
-Buckhead (south of there) is the "hip" area of town with all the fancy restaurants, some now pretty ghettoed-out nightlife and good shopping.
-Midtown (south of there) is the second gayest area of the country next to san francisco. It has some rather yuppy nightlife and you'll encounter your share of $30,000 millionaires.
I, and most others I know, really like Atlanta a lot. Actually, wait. I don't need more traffic. Move to Chicago.

General Sherman was a f**k. I've visited some surviving old south homes and they're awesome. That f**k.

Atlanta is flat. The people are slow. They say hello to strangers. They smile for no reason at all.
The place freaks me out.

You answered my request for elaboration with your original statement. That is not an answer. I would say Chicago is more developed in the arts. It has a superior skyline. Atlanta is definately more modern, though. The overall quality of life is WAY better too.
Which would you prefer?
