hmm maybe im just mean, if i wasnt interested in someone who was trying to put the moves on me i told them straight out i wasnt interested.
'never used the lets just be firends' crap but i have been friends with a guy that then formed into a relationship /shrug.
heck my hubby and i were best friend for almost three years before we got together. *met in highschool, just wasnt right for us back then i guess and didnt hook up till years later*
never beat around the bush tell it like it is straight and to the point nd dont play fek headgames. that was a personal moto type deal and made all my friends use it too so i didnt have to listen to whiny drama teenage crap ( i had no tolerance for teenyflopper drama even as a teen).
lets just be friends... pfft!

"Let's just be friends" is woman speak for I am not attracted to you. Once a woman has flipped this switch she will almost never go back. Likely you were too much of a "nice guy". My suggestion is move on and don't be such a wuss next time (note I didn't say to be an ass either).
The other alternative is you could use this "friendship" to go out with her to pickup other girls. Women will notice you a lot more if you are already "with" another woman.

If a girl ever says that to you , stop wasting your time right then and there . move on and find a new peice of tail . There are millions of women out there . don't waste your time on a girl who has a 2% chance of changing her mind about you . that translates to
Desperation .
Not to mention , your best bet at getting her is dating some other girl and letting her see other girls want you and she can see what she is missing out on as you spoil this girl in front of her eyes .

But a lot of times girls really do LIKE you but are not interested in you, so friends is the only option.
Don't want to sound full of myself, but I have had a few male friends fall in love with me at one time or another, and most of them I really wanted to be *just friends* with. In my experience things got weird after they told me and realised I wasn't interested in them *that way* though, and they kinda just went their own way. But that's up to the guy...
I don't know if you *can* be friends after that, but I don't think it's fair to say that *just friends* is always just a tactic. Sometimes it is genuine. Just gotta find out which is which I guess =)
I do agree with what you said to Sab though: a year is pretty long, that was my thought exactly when I read it this morning.

Celest, not saying there is necessarily anything wrong or sneaky about a woman saying she just wants to be friends, in reality she may be totally honest.
I think most guys who "like" a girl (in that way) don't want to be "just friends" though. It's different if the friendship feeling is mutual, or if we are friends now - but with potential (timing isn't right, one or other is already with someone else, etc).
But the "lets just be friends" and the guy has a crush/feelings is just not a place any guy wants to be in.

Ya Brash & Pankrat, I don't think it works most of the time. Like I said my experience is that you lose that person as a friend, since they don't like seeing you with someone else or just can't be around you and get over you at the same time.
Understandable but it lost me some good friends in the past, and when I think about that it makes me sad. I was one of those people who used to be blissfully (and painfully) unaware of when someone found me attractive, which led to some awkward moments at times. (Like someone asking me out for a walk, and me saying "why?" ;p "Uhh, because I really like you...." "Oh")
The thing that bugs me sometimes about the (teenage?) guys on RP is the way they talk about girls (women). Like every woman is out there playing headgames with them, and messing with their feelings... There must be more girls out there that are more straightforward and honest. I cannot be the only one ;p
Sometimes things are just difficult to deal with. How would YOU react if someone likes you that way but you are not interested in anything but friendship. I mean, be realistic but don't always assume the worst! We do have the best reasons and benign motives sometimes ;p
