Depending on what you are looking for, thepiratebay.org can be very useful. Especially for getting full albums in one download. I've managed to find both old and very recent albums on there. It's also quite nicely sorted out by genre/year/etc so can be handy for finding new stuff too.
You'll need a bittorrent client though, obviously.
