I just had to restore my comp yesterday because of all the virus's I got through Kazaa. Does anyone know a program that I can Download music through that is for the most part safe and virus free?
I heard win mx wasnt as bad as Kazaa, is it safe?

Seriously though try www.kazaalite.com and scan stuff before you open it. No file sharing system is fool proof especially with all the fools out there. Don't open up EXE files without running them through a nice virus scan. I prefer Kazaa ATM due to the sheer number of people on it. I have Win MX as well but it's hard as hell to find some of the less mainstream stuff =/

The only way to have a safe file sharing program is to have a f*****g clue. So go get a clue and then try kazaa again.

Spink is confused. The people who have a clue, use IRC. The people who don't have a clue, use Kazaa.
Kazaa is the AOL of fileshare. It makes filesharing easy with big colorful buttons!

I was getting at the safeness from viruses rather than anything else. You're just as likely to get a virus from files on irc if you don't scan them or get them from reliable sources, etc.

I got a similar question...
I'm getting my new PC over spring break (mid March), I was wanting to put all my mp3's and my anime files onto r00tus' server, so that I can re-download them alot easier once I get my new PC...
Question though, if those files were downloaded through Kazaa, would putting those files onto my new PC f**k it up like it did this PC? Or is this PC a piece of shit from Kazaa itself?
I don't want to put those files on my new PC then have it start crashing and rebooting randomly, and never working properly ;p

much easier solution pags.
put your OLD hdd into your NEW pc and then bang. all your old shit without the upload/download time not to mention the bandwidth the rest of us must share
as far as file sharing goes, nothing is really safe, scan everything before opening it, even files you got off IRC.

Not a chance in hell :p
Theres so much shit wrong with this god damn computer, I'm not letting anything (other than speakers/moniter) from my old pc even come in contact with the new one, lol
I'm not gonna risk putting whatever f****d up this PC onto my new one...
Which brings me back to my question...

Get Kazaa Lite, like Malik said. It's still file-sharing for dummies (tm). But it's generally faster than most of the other crap, assuming your modem doesn't require three gerbils running at high velocity. Like Mordiss.

90% of problems with computers come from stupid users. Unless ignorance is a virus I don't think scanning your files will save you!
If you notice your friends telling you "Hey, whats this email you sent me... "Hi! I send you this file in order to get your advice" then it's possible you have a virus!
If your system reboots on friday the 13th and starts formatting your C: drive, you might have a virus!
If your computer runs slow and you notice you have a ton of shit running in the background, you're probably just an idiot.
Edit: Thought I'd mention it just for good measure, I use Kazaa (and have been for months,) to get older warez files and mp3s. Not kazaa lite (who cares! I had spyware already!) aside from the wonderful gator popups, my system runs fine!

Oh I don't deny that my PC f*****g up is most likely my fault...
But, I'm trying to avoid f*****g this new one up as soon as I get it...
So is it safe to put those same files back on my new PC?

no.
i think that if you put your files back your computer will get some sort of virus, explode, shoot lcd liquid in your eyes and kill you.
better play it safe and buy an Apple.

It depends what it is.
If it's RealPlayer then I highly suggest not installing it again!
My point is that there are too many people who simply blame all of their problems on a virus when this is simply b******t. I download files constantly and I've never gotten a virus. Not over kazaa, not over bearshare, not over winmx, and not over IRC.
Sure, lots of programs install all sorts of shit.
Files are files. The files you get over Kazaa are likely to be the same files someone got over winmx, who in turn got his files from IRC, who got their files from some warez newgroup on usenet. ITS A f*****g CIRCLE PEOPLE. It doesn't matter what software you use or where you got it, you're going to get files that originated in all sorts of places. How do you tell where it originated? You don't. Welcome to the information super highway!
Is it safe? f**k no it's not safe. You don't know where those files came from, the next winzip crack you download from Mp3Punkr0x0r666 from Kazaa could just be a computerrorism strategy in place by Osama Bin Laden that might turn your computer into a BOMB or some sort of silicon fungus that shoves floppy disks into your ass while you sleep.
If you want your computer to be safe and secure take Frashii's approach and unplug your computer then bury it 30 feet under solid rock.

Well I did have a couple of viruses, I'm just not 100% sure on how I got them, I just assumed it was from downloading porn for years and years...
I'll just put the old files back on my PC and keep a nice anti-virus program on there :o

go to www.packetnews.com or www.mydownloader.com
Run a search for what you want and it will generate a list of IRC servers, channels, and what bot has the thing you're looking for.
Click on the channel and it will automatically open IRC, connect to that server, and join you into that channel.
Then it's just a matter of finding the bot that has what you're looking for.
Usually, the bot will have an autoscript that lists the files it is offering in the channel. Then you have to type something along the lines of:
/msg XDCC-BOT21 xdcc send #2
where XDCC-BOT21 is the bot name
xdcc send - tells the bot to send you a file via DCC
#2 - the packet number that the bot is offering
I've downloaded Splinter Cell, Impossible Creatures, Freelancer, Visual Basic Enterprise Edition, BlackICE, countless VCD's, full albums, and tons of other crap in the past few days. IRC rules. You'll never buy another game or app. again. You can usually get games a week or 2 before they ship to the stores as is the case of Freelancer which I already finished.

I downloaded the PC version, but yes...there are tons of channels that offer PS2, XBOX, and Gamecube games.
All you need to do is download them and burn them onto a CD. Of course that's assuming you have a modded console. If not, I hear there are some pretty sweet modchips out now that require no crazy boot processes; you simply pop in the burned CD and play.
