KOLKATA, India (Reuters) - A woman receiving treatment for diabetes at a state-run hospital in eastern India lost one of her eyes after ants nibbled away at it, officials said on Tuesday.
The patient recovering from a post-surgery infection shrieked for help as the ants attacked her on Sunday night, but nurses told her it was normal to feel pain from the infection.
On Monday, the patient's family saw a gaping hole with swarming ants in it when they lifted the bandage on her left eye.
Authorities of the Sambhunath Hospital in Kolkata said they were probing the incident.
"It's not uncommon for ants to attack diabetic patients. We have set up a committee to investigate the unfortunate incident," hospital superintendent A. Adhikary said.
Scampering rats and stray cats and dogs sharing bed space with patients are not uncommon sights at India's overcrowded state-run hospitals that are used by millions of poor and middle-class people. |

I dated a nurse in bklyn who scooped maggots out of an old womans p***y.
Hospital staff kept finding maggots on the floor, everyone wanted to know where they were coming from.
Then someone figured it out:)

Two facts here:
1) You have lots of interesting stories to share
2) You used the verb 'scooped'
These point toward the potential for very interesting book, if you wanted to write one.

Both stories are sad but gross.
I remember reading a story in the NY Daily News when I was young about drug addicts...how the veins collapsing in their legs from shooting smack would cause sores...and how maggots would breed in the sores...

maggots are so very wrong. Couldn't tell you how many time we had people bring their pets in, covered with the f*****g things, when I worked for a vet.
and they had the friggin nerve to scream at US for not taking them right away or making them wait for their appointment.
gee asshat, it takes a few days for those things to show up...why the hell are you just bringing your beloved pet in now?
I hate those people.
