its kinda bs right? I mean, it did NOT fly at mach 10. It was strapped to the front of a rocket going mach 10, and they tested that the scramjet sill worked at that speed.

Its a new technology.. very new. From what I know it only functions properly under the right conditions/speed. My guess is a scramjet powered aircrat would still require conventional engines/rocket power to get off the ground and obtain sufficent speed for the scramjet to work.
There are also theoretical designs of a spacecraft using this same principle called a ramjet.

And in 150 yrs when we've wasted this planets resources everyone will be clamoring for the US to share it's space technology so that other countries won't go down the tubes etc...
There's alot of fore thought here really. The poor people themselves are why they are poor, not because of the country. That's why I'm poor, because I didn't go to college or do anything worthwhile with my time. It's not my country's fault, so why should I expect them to pay for it?

i hate to agree with frenchy but the entire thing is pretty pointless... jet technology will not be taking us into space and the acceleration times of a missile using this tech would make it not so great.. it wouldnt be a real improvement over just having our subs everywhere like we do already...
its an interesting idea with a few decent aplications but its not really a solution or a step towards a solution for any of nasas current problems.

Yes, this includes NASA. Funded by our government, and the people who allow the continued funding of NASA are duly elected representatives.
If you know anything of history you know that practical uses of cutting edge technology often is not discovered for some time.
Here is a very basic one for ya: Really f*****g fast UPS service.
Oh look another one: Really f*****g fast transcontinental flights.
Hmm another: Advancing the space program in order to facilitate exploration in general, which will one day be very necessary, and when that time comes (in the far future when we are long dead I hope) our descendants would be most thankful that we decided to continue to fund NASA.
Or you could just give out 230m in food stamps and feed a bunch of lazy f***s for a year or so.

Spend your dollars on things to prevent ruining this planet; it really isnt a hard thing to do. But if you insist on using as much oil as you can, as if it is an infinite oil well....and stop the insane pollution. Its the U.S's attitude in general thats ruining this planet. The Space Shuttle Columbia managed to hit Mach 25 on Re-entry on April 14, 1981.

oxidizers - ammonium perchlorate (70 percent)
catalyst - iron oxide powder (0.2 percent)
binder - polybutadiene acrylic acid acrylonite (12 percent)
curing agent - epoxy resin (2 percent)
Liquid fuel is usually liquid Hydrogen and Oxygen.

Oh, I'd also like to add that the point of that system is not the speed at which it traveled, but rather the technology that is propelling it. It's a different type of engine that could possibly conserve energy and allow NASA to send a manned spacecraft to Mars.
