He doesn't look any different to me than lost of the kids his age. Have any of you turned on MTV in the last decade or been inside a major shopping mall in any moderately sized city? This is "the look" now. Kinda like how long hair for men and bell bottoms or monacles and 3 piece suits were cool when you were young, yanno? When I was in high school, it was that dirty, grunge look that all the boys wore. Fads come and go, it won't last too much longer then you all will have something else to b***h about!
F'n old fogies in here... Sheesh.

Except this fad involves looking like a female when you are a male. He wants to look like a b***h, thats a fad for f**s.
David Bowie wore makeup and stuff back in my HS time. The thing is, DB WAS a f*g.....so was mercury from queen...we all knew it. I don't remember people walking around in school TRYING to look like them, or like females.
He walks the street trying to look like a f*g or a cross dresser, a b***h!
He is f****d up!

I'm glad your ENC 1101 teacher told you all of that.
And who's talking about On The Road? Though I don't agree with you fully, you're partially right.
Of course contemporaneous artists were going to be critical of Kerouac and his cohorts; the man deviated from most all popular fiction of the time. To well-established artists of the 1950s, the Beats (before Time got ahold of them) were a non-threatening group of talentless scrubs. But, now, when you look at 1950s American literature, the Beats stand as an indellible mark.
And, about his fallings out with his friends, it's best left said by him in his novels. Desolation Angels is sticking out in my mind.
Now, go ahead. Be as critical as you want when comparing the tripe that is The Perks of Being a Wallflower to Kerouac, but--beware--that straightening iron could very well have burnt some brain cells somewhere along the line.
