Where do they stand on this, in Lost Eden? The lack of diversity was a major issue in SL, and I hear rumors that this just keeps getting worse in EL. AO is already a heavily gear-based game, why make it even more so? Anyone w/first-hand experience to offer his insight?

Dunno. If by "lack of diversity" you are referring to generally wide availability of clearly superior equipment – then I'm with you on that. However, I'm not sure where you got the idea that this issue would be addressed in EL. Personally, I doubt that this was a design plan at any point, but ICBW.
