To who ever played or play Anarchy Online. There is something in that game that I dont know what to think of. It is probably a simple answer to a simple question and here it goes Anarchy Online What is Nano? I am sure I will feel ashamed when you tell me the answer, but I had to give it a try.

You need not be ashamed when you ask questions and I should not be ashamed when I dont know the answer to your question. I am not sure what Nano is, although I play this game for more than one month. Maybe that is not very much, but I spend a couple of hours playing this game every day. To get back to the question. I think that Nano can be either a profession, or a skill. I am sure it is no class, but I think you didnt think it was a skill. I will look up for this on the web and then I will get back to you on that.

Nano in AO is the equivalent of mana in other fantasy MMO's; each time you cast a nanoprogram you burn nano. Nano# is influenced by your nanopool skill; which in turn is influenced by your abilities for nanopool the ability dependance is "70% psychic, 10% sense, 10% intelligence, 10% stamina"
Small explanation on trickledown; for a skill that is 100% dependant on 1 ability - for example: Computer Literacy (100% intelligence dependance); for every 4 points in intelligence you gain 1 point in Computer Literacy. This applies to all skills; just the attribute values differ between them.
So for nanopool; 2.8 points in psychic + 0.4 in sense, 0.4 in intelligence, 0.4 in stamina = 1 point to nanopool.

As has been said it is like a "spell" in other magic based games. In AO, at low levels, all your nanos can be found in the general stores in the Nano Formulas booth. They look like a colored crystal and once you buy them you can right click them to "upload" them to your nano programs area.
You need the stats that it takes to cast them to be able to upload them, for example if it takes 50 Mat Met and 65 Psy Mod and you do not have both at equal or greater, it will not upload.
Most nanos are for one class only except the General category which all classes may use.
After QL 125 (hmm I think it is 125, but I haven't played AO in like a year), you need to obtain your nanos by buying from players or "rolling" them as mission rewards, but by the time you get to that point you will know how to play
