I'm a potential new player, looking to get acquainted with the game before actually diving in. So, let me get a few things straight. The professions that you can choose in AO are Adventurer, Agent, Bureaucrat, Doctor, Enforcer, Engineer, Fixer, Keeper, Martial Artist, Meta-Physicist, Nano-Tech, Shade, Soldier, and Trader, is that right? Is it possible to mix-and-match this, becoming for example an Enforcer / Shade, similar to Guild Wars? Also, what's with this initiative to make the Adventurer the only profession available in the game? Is that for real, or is it just someone's joke?

That adventurer thing is just a rant by a disgruntled player, one of far too many. They've been complaining that the improvements made to the adventurer by FC were far too much, and made it the no-brainer choice foe new characters. Hence, the "initiative" to ban all other professions form the game, which is of course just a way to express dissatisfaction, not a serious request.
