My old man worked the case where the junkie killed family members in that house. Nothing demonic unless you think herion is the devil. He told me the book was b******t the day I read it, back in 78 I think. How many years later did the author admit to faking it?

Yeah, ruined the book for me. I had NO idea he was on that case, didn't pay attention to what he was doing when I was a kid. He saw that I wasted my clamming money on the hard cover and laughed, telling me the whole story. We would go to the house back then, drink and dump our beer bottles on the front lawn. We walked all over the property, boat house, everywhere, no demons. It was uninhabited for a few years straight as I remember it.

It's suspension of disbelief. Watching them with the attitude of, "What if this could really happen?" gives a totally different experience than watching them with the attitude of, "That shit's fake. That won't scare me."
It's like going to see a magician. Of course his tricks are fake. They're meant to puzzle and entertain - not prove he can really pull a saw blade out of a woman's face.

See, that's one of the things I love about Stephen King's books...he takes perfectly normal (seemingly normal?) places, situations, people...and just tweaks them a tiny bit...BAM...horror story that is entertaining simply because it doesn't SEEM to come from the realm of fantasy (like Barker's stuff, for example)

exactly!! His best stories are about normal people in a normal world who suddenly have terrible things happen to them. Imagine if you buried your cat in an indian cemetary and it returned to life (this really works btw). You'd shit yourself.

Horror movies are garbage nowadays. I actually yearn for the days of slasher films, because at least some of that is believable.
The last good horror film made was The Sixth Sense.

ya but the sixth sense wasn't a horror movie
usually suspence thrillers are much better then straight out horror movies.
but i do like horror monster movies just cuz they're fun and classic horrors are just to cool even tho they're fake as hell i love the atmostpher of old blacknwhite horror.
