I was curious if anyone else had problems with them before.

I recently re enlisted in the navy, got a huge sum , and decided to spoil myself with an Alienware Aurora. I knew that I was paying for a name, that I could get all the top of the line parts cheaper and have it built for better price too, but I wanted an Alienware because I heard so much good stuff about them.

These m***********s man, lemmie tell you...it wasn't pretty. I sent that b***h back and got a dell instead.

Just curious if anyone had similar issues maybe.

bad motherboard.

took em a month to figure it out.

Another reason i wanted a top of the line computer is because i was moving out of the united states for a few years and i wanted something that would last and keep up with the latest games. ( I live in Iceland now), Anyways, after a month of not being able to fix it, I decided since these f*****s couldn't build it right (they brag about some 219 point quality control testing before it gets to you) and they missed a bad motherboard, I told them I doubt they could fix it so I sent it back.

I had to pay the shipping of course, and they wanted to charge me a %15 fee for returning it since they build them custom and don't sell refurbished comps. Well, %15 is a lot from $4500 for a piece of shit that didn't work( this thing crashed 3 times the first day i got it and at least once a day everyday after) so I bitched enough and got out of that.

Went to dell that day, ordered their XPS with some modifications, and that pretty much sums it up. I've had a dell for like 3 years and was never dissapointed with it or the customer service/tech support.

I've got a 1 year old D800 with the 1.6GHz Pentium M Centrino processor.
Just upgraded the video card to the Geforce FX Go5650 128MB and have to say that I'm extremely happy with it. Not the most powerful laptop video card, but the best one that I could get for the D800.
I think I run EQ @ better than 1280x1024 (forget what the widescreen format is) with all options set to high or highest, and just ME+NPC for spell particles.

At any rate, Dell is one good machine.

I build my own too. Smile Though I've given thought to alienware. But seeing the parts they used I priced it all out and could put one together for half the price.

Enjoy Iceland. I was there from 90 to 94. Commander Fleet Air Keflavik. CFK. Smile

I wouldn't trust myself to build my own. I just know i would wire something wrong and the power supply would blow up in my face or something, that plus I'm lazy.

So far Iceland seems alright. Not crazy about the prices out in town though. Anywhere where the beer is $10 each is a little off.

My sister just got a sweet deal on her Dell laptop. Even with my CompUSA discount (which is cost), I still couldn't beat it. Pretty sweet machine, too.

Of course, Dell couldn't touch my cost for a wireless modem and thumb drive. *cough*free*cough* Wink

I mainly drank on base. Back when I was there they had a rule that all E-5's and below had to be back on base by nightfall (that rule went away about half way through my tour). So most everyone just stayed on base. Back then there was plenty to do. Three clubs, movie theater etc etc.

I had a lot of fun there. Lots of sports to play. Smile

That's not surprising, Akronn. CompUSA "cost" is really high. I priced out a computer with my discount ("cost") then went down the street and bought all the parts for less from a retail store.

Anyway, as for Alienware, I don't know much about their computers except that their support sucks. We had an Alienware laptop in for repair for a couple weeks with a bad ethernet port. Why did it take two weeks to fix a bad ethernet port? Because Alienware absolutely refused to believe it was a faulty part and would not send us the replacement board. They had the poor tech running tests and loading drivers and reinstalling OS's for two weeks before he finally got p****d off enough to berate them into replacing the part.

Yup. I had the same situation, they were so sure it was a software issue, like directx or drivers, after the memory diagnostic, they were soooo certain it was bad RAM (c'mon TWO bad sticks of high end ram, i can see one but not both) so they sent replacement RAM and the shit still didn't work, so finally I request a motherboard replacement, I call 5 days later to get a status on it, and it wasn't even ordered, I was fuming, that plus I was packing my stuff up for the movers in 7 days too.

Oh and Kely, as for drinking on base, that's probably what I'll end up doing. Right now I just chill in the room with my bacardi and I'm fine.

Lemmie ask ya though, what was the BAC when you were here. It's like .05 , you could drink one beer and get a DUI. You don't even have to be driving, if you are in the car and the keys are in the ignition and it's running, you get hit with a dui too. I guess that's a good thing, I would just like to have wine with my dinner or something and still be able to drive home without getting hit.[/quote]
