not new news, really. Prez Bush was lambasted for basically saying the same thing in the state of the union address. Maybe now people will listen.

Exactly 3 things can make a change to social security as the situation stands now.
1. The total membership of congress decides to grow a pair of balls and risk political suicide by alienating the most consistant voting bloc in the US.
2. Said most consistant voting bloc suddenly becomes rational and realizes that all the proposed changes will not effect their benefits.
3. The system collapses.
Cause right now, there is one hell of a game of "scare the old folks" goin on and the democrats are better at scarin the old folks that the Republicans are out to get them than the Republicans are at makin them realize that the system is about to shit itself to death.
