What difference is there, really, between a (soldier) conqueror and a (rogue) barbarian character? I mean, game mechanics- wise, they both fill pretty much the same role, right? The big tough melee guy, in the middle of combat. And thematically too, I don't see much difference there either. Am I missing something?

Not sure what you're talking about, TBH. The barbarian is a light-armor, high damage kind of guy, and his role (in the classic MMO style) is that of a melee DPS character. The conqueror, however, is a tank, pure and simple. They have more differences than they have commonalities, IMO.
