So I'm getting a car this week, I have two options
1 - 1990 Acura Legend LS Sedan with 128k miles for approx 5k (Kelly Blue Book value is around 5200), it's in good shape aside from one minor ding just above the headlight. My credit sucks, it's buy here pay here from a decent dealership but they will be reporting to the credit agencies so it'll help there.
2 - 1988 Toyota Camry sedan (4 cyl) with 148 k miles for $1000 (Kelly Blue Book on trade is 864 and retail is 2600). This is from a friend who does good car work so it's been taken care of overall while he's had it. He'd let me pay over the course of about 6 weeks as I got the money.
Now the positives to the Acura is that it has fewer miles, will go to the credit agencies, and has more features.
Positives to the Toyota are that I know the condition it's in, it's ran fine for him thus far and they are only giving it up because they got something else. Monitarily it's a better choice just because of the total cost, plus it'd be cheaper to fix if something does go wrong.
So my question... these are the two options presented to you, which do you choose and why?

buy the cheaper one. get a secured credit card which will help yer credit just as much as that car will.
get the credit you want.
buy an american car.

15 year old car, the miles are meaningless. Its how they are taken care of, there are other way to build up credit rating.

"better" is a perceived difference in almost all cases for cars these days. not factual.
If we all were buying better cars, they'd mostly be american, according to the sites that show quality/etc. we've been over the links a million times.
and when this refi boom stops, and the rates go back up, and the trillions of dollars that were introduced into our economy from it all stop flowing, and the companies that we havent supported go out of business in record numbers instead of just the steady flow we have now, and you cant afford any car to go to the job you dont have anyway.....
remember this post then.
but, you'll have that much more time to go to the gym

true enough but imo the status that goes with having one of the good imports is what makes it worthwhile, any 20 year old deusche bag can buy a mustang.
