Advice needed for new EVE player here! As you already know I am the new player and there is not much that I know about this game, but I am eager to learn as much as I can in this starting period. What is the most important thing that I should know right now? Is there something that you are sorry that you didn’t know?

I think that the most important thing that you should know and the most important thing that you should make sure that you understand is that there is something that is called a permanent ban and this is something that you should be thinking about very hard right from the start because I know some of the players who made this great mistake at the beginning and there was no excuse for this, so you need to made damn sure that this is not something that is going to happen to you as well. Just follow the rules and this is not going to happen to you.

Biggest thing to understand in this game is that even though you will never catch the characters skill point wise that started many years before you you can still be a useful asset to the corporation you join, just start small and work your way up to what ever type of thing you want to do be it industry, pvp, exploration etc.
Also do make sure you join a player run corporation, adds alot more to the game and you will enjoy it so much more

The best advice I give newer players is to focus their training skills. People get cuaght up in bigger ships and more abilities. However your are better off being good in one thing instead of not good in any one thing. In the start just take to to experience the game and a great place to start is in building the skillls that actually improve your ability to learn or train other skills. The following link is to a guide that explains the learning skills and ideas on how to best max out their use.
Good luck and hope you have fun with Eve.

I think salesaccount has a great point. You want to focus on primarily on one aspect of the game. If you want to run missions or pvp, you will want to make sure you know what kind of ship you want to be flying, and then determine what skills you need to fly that ship. In addition to the skills needed to fly the ship, you will want to raise the support skills to lvl 4. Support skills would include weapons, weapon uprgades, shield skills, armor repping skills, etc. Just being able to sit in a ship doesn't mean that you should be flying that ship.
