|
|
|
So im launching this new ad campaign starting at the end of November.
Basically we want the people who get our postcards to actually read the letter before they throw it in the bag that holds broken egg shells and used coffee filters. I want it to be something witty or somewhat humerous. This is one of my many ideas, but I just dont think alot of people watch SNL to grasp what is being said...however it might be worth it just for those few who do get it. What do you guys think?

That's pretty cute but you're kind of missing the boat on the 'need more cowbell' craze. It's worth a shot! What is your target age range? 35+ yr olds? They probably still watch SNL with hopes that The Funny will return to it.. one day... some how.... overcoming adversity... and poor writers... and ellipses... to have The Funny... once again.... my friend.

Yeah I know the boat sailed with the cowbell many moons ago, but I havent see nthe funny come back into SNL since then...so all I have to work with are the glory days. =p
This one is for age range 20-35. I have about 9 different postcards setup so far, and still thinking up more. The others are plays on words or other light humor. We really want to make a commercial on HBC(Home Buyers Channel) of one of our guys playing Matt Foley. haha he does a great chris farley impression too.

Are you serious? Tura.. I hate to break it to you but there's kinda a reason why banks and lenders have the images they do. No one wants your bank to have a sense of humor... it worked for a while with Washington Mutual and look how well that paid off for them in the long run.
It's like airport security and police officers.. everyone SAYS they wish they would lighten up, but in reality everyone is pretty happy with the way things are.

Yeah the worst that could happen is not getting any phone calls. =p
Don't get me wrong we have lots of other avenues that we use for advertising but this was kind of an extra side project I thought would be fun for me and the recipients.

He should get fired. I didn't think it was possible but that postcard both sucks and blows at the same time.

Your font is like stewed shit and your graphic reaks of Google-image search. Your black text isn't even consistent. I wouldn't trust the maker of this postcard with my yardwork let alone my home loan.

You do realize this is not being distributed right? This is a rought draft, made with MS paint which coincidentally is 'rough'. Once I pick out the ones I want to actually use, I clean them up and change them around.

well then I suggest you find some drafts that don't involve cheap humor lifted from Saturday Night Live. Somehow when I think of financial security, sketch comedy does not come to mind.

Oh ok, well you didn't mention this was any sort of side project, so I assumed that based on your wording (new ad campaign launching, wanting to be different than everyone else) that you were invested in this type of advertising. If you're exploring different things then that's good. In any event, I'm sure you're on top of it. You don't have to explain to me. You did post asking for feedback, and feedback I gave.
If you plan on sticking with this design, my *advice* is that you run it through Illustrator or something first.. it really does look like it was made using a Microsoft Publisher 98 wizard.

Well now thats the real question isn't it? I'll probably run these for about 3-4 months and see what kind of response we get. If it doesn't appeal, I scrap the project.

g*****n then.. quit being so f*****g defensive. Post something you're actually going to work with then ask for some feedback. Either that or really mean it when you're asking for feedback. If you put up rough shit why do you expect anything less in the feedback you get?

Of course I want your feedback, even if its negative. The good news is that these are relatively easy to make and very cost-effective to distribute.
Like I said earlier though, this is just a rough draft compared to what a finalized document would look like. We have actually considered hiring an outside company to produce our postcards for us, because even the top-of-the-line postcard sheets you can find at places like office depot are sub-par. Everything that comes from our office is professional and precise.
Our main source of leads come from other different sources though, so I look at this project as an experiment rather than a mainstream source for bringing in new clients. If we got at least 1 call from these, I would be happy. The loan itself would pay for almost a year's worth of the materials it takes to mass-produce them.

Wow, calm down there Nah, im not getting defensive at all. I'm not even at the point of sending these out yet. You should be able to look at a rough draft and get the basic consensus of what the postcard is trying to illustrate.

I think it just sucks period. The joke is not funny and not even remotely related to the field of finance. You're referencing SNL and the music industry, two things that have absolutely nothing to do with home mortages. Furthermore you're pigeonholing the mailing to a small demographic of people that A. Actually know wtf you're referencing and B. also happen to need a loan.
You say you'd be happy with a single call from this campaign and that just one loan would compensate the expense of months of pamphleteering, but what you aren't taking into account is all the business you'll be losing from promoting yourself as a jester. Mass-mailing people with this cornball humor is only going to alienate potential customers who don't understand the allure of "More Cowbell" or have a stigma against anything related to the music industry. Humor in advertisment can be effective, but niche humor like this is simply inappropriate.

Yeah, that's primarily what im afraid of with this one. I don't think alot of people would associate with it and end up becoming more distant as a result.
I was discussing it with a lender AE this morning and he loved it. I thought it was ok, but I wanted some outside opinion on it as well; hence, this topic. That's also why I don't spend a ton of time cleaning them up or running them through Adobe. I want to get a few solid ideas and then run with them.
Thank you for the input though mal/nah...

As soon as I saw "loan provider" , I wanted to trash it.
Perhaps move that underneath some witty picture or caption.
That way it already has their attention.
Or put something catchy, then important text, then at the bottom
in really tiny print
"Ha! This is just another loan provider add!".
