Rumors a few years ago that he'd actually step down, which is obviously unheard of. However, with modern medicine we can keep old folks alive for what seems like an eternity (especially one with the Pope's resources) and I think alot of people are realizing that 'Pope for life' may not be such a great policy anymore.
On the bright side, Pope JPII in his current condition sure does represent the slow decay of Roman Catholicism. So maybe he should keep truckin' along

With medical technology what it is today, we can dope the pope, put him on life support, and put him in a plexiglas case where he can be paraded around for years in front of millions of the ignorant, er faithful. His papal edicts will make as much sense as they do now.
We can also make millions selling little snow globe versions of him, namely, Pope Domes. Just give it a shake and voila, it is Vatican Winter Wonderland.
