YOu guys are so wise, when it comes to computers !
i want to make my computer preform faster. Other than buying more ram how can i change settings on my computer to where it can run faster? ( games, programs ect ) I forgot the command to open up the box that lets you close running programs . I don't mean CTRL atl delete either... Thank you for your time ...

Depends on OS...
With that close programs thing I think you mean processes-in 2k/XP it's the second tab on the task manager and in 9x you need another program to do it.
Graphics cards have settings for quailty over performance-Right-click desktop, Properties->Settings->Advanced->Depending on Card, go from there.
You can switch your computer to run more like a web server, normal desktop or mobile laptop, but I don't think you really need to change that.
That's all I can think of atm.

No, I meant the command you type in run . it's like something .exe and it let's you disable programs from running when you start your computer.. Thanks

ummm....how many programs do you have that run at startup?
might wanna try going into msconfig and click off everything but the barebones you need to run windows
|

Delete anything in the STARTUP section of your start menu to. You can close off everything in the startup menu in msconfig also. Though sometimes video and sound card manufactures put their tools in there that optimise your setting and whatnot. I still close them off though.
Defrag with something other than the stock program, start with less crap, uninstall programs you don't use anymore, check all your hardware profiles and make sure things like your hard drives, video card and processor are not shareing resources with other hardware.
