Well alot of you like to trumpet ricers' quality, and backed by the subjective nature of JD Power and Associates, there isn't really much that can be argued. For whatever reason, they typically achieved higher scores in their survey even though we all have horror stories for every kind of make of car out there covering all manufacturers.
But now the survey's gap is nearly gone. Toyota's score in the quality survey was 115 complaints per 100 vehicles, up from 107 last year. Honda had 126, up from 113, while General Motors increased to 134 from 130. Nissan declined to 135 from 152, Ford fell to 136 from 143, DaimlerChrysler dropped to 139 from 141, and Volkswagen AG fell to 141 from 152.
Toyota can thank their Lexus people for the nice score, Lexus averaged only 76 complaints per 100 vehicles (next best was Cadillac at 103) and GM can thank Hummer for inflating their score the other way. Hummer averaged 225 complaints per 100 vehicles, with everyone citing their atrocious fuel mileage.
In rankings by type of vehicle, Toyota led in four of nine car segments, including all three for luxury models (again, Lexus), and two of seven truck categories. Ford was the leader in one truck and two car categories, and Mazda Motor Corp., which is controlled by Ford, had the top vehicle in one of each.
General Motors topped two truck categories and one car segment. Honda led in one truck category and DaimlerChrysler's Mercedes ranked first in one car type.
Also, GM again took the two top North American plant awards and Ford third -- meaning those plants produced vehicles with the fewest complaints.

If you were going for a racist allusion, Honda and Toyota are Japanese, not Chinese. Perhaps you meant something along the lines of "American car companies nipping at the heels of Honda and Toyota"

Actually, the allusion hadn't occurred to me until I typed it, and by that time I liked the sound too much to change it!
'Nipping' is funny though
