As always, thanks for looking Smile

I have a motorola V600 thats about a year and a half old originally purchased from AT&T. It finally shit the bed and they (now cingular) replaced it with a V551.

I have motorola phone tools 3.25b and I can connect just fine to xfer phone numbers, etc but when I try to go to the 'multimedia studio' to download my wallpapers, ring tones, etc I get the no love. It thinks for a minute but lists no files that reside on the phone nor will it let me upload anything to the phone.

Is this a lock put on by AT&T so people can't upload free ringtones, etc? Can/should I unlock the phone to solve this problem?

I looked at p2kman and it doesn't recognize either phone, yet both are recognized in MPT.

plz2bhelping!

can always try bluetooth if your phone has it. Sucks cuz it'll cost ya 20 for an adapter to your PC for bluetooth, but then you can xfer games and multimedia and everything.

not sure why mpt isnt working though. maybe tell it to try a different phone like a v330 or something. I know MPT will try to figure out what phone it is, but try a different one for giggles. /shrug

Try opening your phone up.

I had the same problem with my motorola v188. I opened, closed and opened my phone again and it worked no problem. It was odd.

Thx For Whom the Bell Tolls as my message notification now!

Yeah, might try a BT connection but that doesn't let you flash your phone Sad

Did that too.

The problem seems to be that the driver everyone says you have to use (the p2kman driver) to do flash/flex and use all the p2kman tools/apps doesn't work. I can install it, it shows up in my device manager as 'motorola usb modem', but with an error of 'cannot start'.

check there and install that MPT, i believe i also have p2kman packaged with the correct USB drivers. uninstall what you have and try that. also be sure you use live update and get to 3.25 which i believe is the latest version of MPT.

you should be able to upload graphics/ringtones to the phone and connect via p2kman without the phone being unlocked.

who is your carrier? i believe t-mobile will unlock your phone for free, cingular will unlock with some social engineering, and anyone else is hit and miss. i paid 30 bucks for remote unlocking on my v600, but all a sim lock does is prevent you from using another company's sim in your phone.

however some companies like verizon can actually put software locks on things inside the phone to prevent you from transfering files, so you have to use their over the air data, much like they did with the v710.

i have a v600 that i've hacked like a b***h also. great solid phone. if you like the design though i'd totally suggest buying a v635, as this blows away everything that moto makes for under 300 bucks. i believe they have dropped to about 230-250 now.
