Not having played WoW beta I'm lost as to what would be effective group wise.
Here's my story. I plan on playing WoW soon as it's released. There are two other people who want to play WoW with me. The only thing I know at this point is one of the people want to be undead but unsure of what to play.
My questions are. Seeing as how we'll be horde for sure.
1st What combination of classes would those of you who played beta suggest?
2nd I personally wouldnt mind being a shaman or a druid (however) undead can be neither of these things. How hard would it be for another race to join up with undead (how far must I travel and are horde races accepted among other horde towns?)
Any help or pointers you can give would be great.

Don't worry about your starting locations. You can each solo to 8 or 10 faster then you would group and do it normally. By that time you can get used to the game and make the trek to meet up. It might take you a day or two but you are going to be playing the game for a long time so pick what race and class you guys all want to play.

All horde races are accepted at other horde towns. The easiest way for other horde races to get to undeadville is to take the zep from ogri.

If you are choosing between Shaman and Druid, go Shaman.

Tauren shaman (war stomp + the HP bonus rules even though they are ugly as sin graphic wise and take up too much f*cking space)
Undead can be rogue/war/priest/mage/warlock (no on warlock, they suck ass)
I think warrior, priest and shaman would be your best bet honestly. It all depends on what you guys like to do when you game. If you like being a dps machine I'd suggest hunter or rogue (both are pretty even w/ talents).
If you like being the one to save the day, warrior (they will be fixed by retail apparently)
If you shadow spec, priests can be awesome damage wise plus keep their ability to keep the group alive and well.
Mages are pretty much ass for soloing in comparison to other classes, but in group situations they are VERY useful for polymorping an add, doing AE freeze for crowd control and of course arcane intellect for the + mana buff.
You could meet up by level 1 if you really wanted, but Ashenor is correct, solo to at least 10 or 12 first, then all of you can meet up in Ogrimmar.
Undead can take the zeppelin just outside of Undercity to get to it.
Trolls/Orcs can get there on foot just north of the starting town.
Taurens have a bit more of a trek from thunderbluff I guess.

My opinion would be definately play what you like and find a way to make it work. Speaking from an alliance perspective, things I thought could never work for an Elite mission turned out to work really well. Specifically 2 mages, a hunter, and a paladin were able to breeze through doin Chok'sul with frankly minimal difficulty and all were level 18 or 19.
This game responds beautifully to different tactics to allow you to accomplish the same things. So a 3 rogue, 3 mage, or 3 warrior group could honestly work and work reasonably well if you are smart. So play what ya want and you can find a way to adapt.
Ideally though, I'd have at least 1 rezer (Priest/Shaman), its just to much of a pain in the ass waiting for a dead person to run back. And worse in an instanced dungeon where you have a 45 min timer and auto rez on zone in, so you can get effectively cut off from the party.

You're nuts if you think a druid can out damage a shadow priest. They still have more mana efficient heals with shadow talents, hence why I quit my druid. Willis healed fine with shadow talents and used them all the way to 60 as far as I know. We grouped all the time in instances etc.

dont worry about being the most efficent combo... cause really the class balance in this game is awesome... just be what you really wanna be and make sure yer having fun
right now... im playing in a trio of me my brother and natalie from the boards here... they are both hunters...
i played a shaman with them at first.. and we ahnialated shit.... now im my warrior with them.. and we still ahnialate shit.... so just make sure you enjoy yer class... pick a race you think looks cool... cause where racial talents of taurens are pretty sweet.... they are some big oafy ugly f***s and i cannot be one based on that alone =P
and yea.. if yer looking at shaman or druid... shaman is awesome... decent melee... dont have to change forms for the melee... get their speed boost at 20.... instant cast f*****g everything except heals =P snare totem is tight... and at 20 you get instant cast snare DD in frost shock... also awesome... heals are nice ....
i am NEVER a non=melee class in games... like.. im always a monk.. warrior.. rogue.. soemthign along those lines... and im seriously considering going shaman they are that awesome....
dont worry about starting cities... it all ends up in the barrens at 12 anyway =P and lvl 12 is like 5-6 hours

So here's my question, what was your highest character and what lvl did you get it to? I played every high end instance minus Onyxia and the Molten Core w/ shadow specced priests and it was just fine. They stacked their dots on mobs that didn't need as much healing and flat out destroyed them. Mind flay isn't too shabby either.

shadow priests do do decent dmg but its not that amazing and what they kise in healing ability is pretty significant... just imo priests should be priests and leave the hybrid specs to the hybrid classes... my highest char was a 60 war dorf4tehwin.
