Ok im going back out of town sooner than I thought so I need to reformat this piece of shit ASAP. I don't have a crack or key for the Win XP home edition CD that my parents' have, so I'm just going to keep using Windows ME till I upgrade systems in a few months.
I go into MS-DOS, type "Format C:", then it asks if I want to remove all information stored on the C: drive, I say "y" and then I get this message: "Drive C: is currently in use by another process. Aborting format."
What is causing it to do that? Is it the viruses keeping me from formatting...or something else? And how do I get around this?
All of the anti-virus programs I've run have located (but were unable to remove) a couple viruses in my windows registry, could this be the cause of not letting me reformat?

This is the same question you asked in your other thread, and ppl gave you the answers there the first time.
You can't just drop to DOS, or hit F8 on boot and goto DOS and format your system. Windows is still loaded when you do that, and files are in use.
You need to make a boot disk, and boot off it.
But you don't even have to do that.. You have your windows ME CD.. Toss it in the drive, reboot your computer and boot off the CD.
When you boot, if you get alittle msg saying "Press any key to boot from CD" .. PRESS A BUTTON!!
It will boot off the CD and start the windows install software. From there you can easily do all kinds of shit.. delete partitions, make new partitions, format partitions, and install Windows... It's so straight forward and simple even my grandma could do it.

That's the problem, I don't have the windows ME CD anymore. I -might- have a floppy disk for windows ME back in Tallahassee (in Orlando till Friday). And I know I don't have the CD key for it...I threw away all that shit when I moved...
So...can't reformat w/o the disk(s)? That's pretty gay

Pags, how where you planning on installing any sort of OS after you formated if you have no Windows CD? lol.
If you dont have one, download one and burn a CD

"Windows XP Pro Corporate with SP1" 538Mb 13 seeds 58 leachers.

Here are some serials for ME:
B6BYC-6T7C3-4PXRW-2XKWB-GYV33
B88DH-VQ89B-G4WWK-DCBP2-7B7PW
P8DJW-RQXXM-T8JCW-HFB29-4FK3Y
HBTD9-6P338-XT2MV-QBTTF-WPGGB
KKK3F-QKXGY-WHG99-B92WK-GFK4C
Can't vouch for them 'cause I haven't used them, but I've always had good luck with any serials I get from Oscar, which is a good thing 'cause the kids are forever losing the jewel cases around here!
Also, you don't always have to reform 'cause of a virus. If you have the name of the virus, you can do a search online. Often times, you can find instructions and/or a utility that will remove it for you. Try all of the major virus software companies. They usually have whatever you need to clean up your system. There are very few viruses that require you zorch everything.
Good luck.
