I just finished reading 1984 today and I must say the ending was probably both the greatest and the worst ending of any book I have ever read. It was neither happy or sad(in a tragedy sense), no one really won and no one really lost it seemed like, well besides the social system winning. Although I hate the ending I must admit that it is literary genius, but I think I would have felt better if he died for his cause instead of becoming another mindless drone.

The neutral feelings you have at the end of the book are core to the book's whole idea. It is one of the few books i've read, and i had to do an essay on it back then. If you liked the book, there is an official 1984 film, although imho it wasnt as good as expected. There is a more recent film, under the same concept called "Equilibrium" starring Christian Bale. It's a hollywood blockbuster, but it still retains the background and ideas of 1984.

I liked the apple commercial based on the movie (which was based on the book). Very creative
